Gossamer is a pavilion which takes Sebastien Truchet’s 2-dimensional pattern concept and applies it to a 3-dimmensional unit intended for play. The Gossamer set consists of 3 discrete units- angled, curved, and varied- along with different length connectors that can be used for structural support or ornamentation. Like Truchet’s pattern, when rotated 90 degrees in any direction these units connect to each other in a fluid and modular manner. The system’s bright colors and thick web-like connects invite users to build at a controlled scale. Differently oriented units can be built to convey dense, solid volume, or the same unit can be replicated in a linear fashion to communicate voids.
